Australia announces Test Squad

Australia has announced its Test squad for the three Tests against Srilanka starting from 06-Aug-2011. Doug Bollinger and Steven Smith are left out while new blood has been given a change. The team doesn’t look the same anymore. It’s just an ordinary Test side. The problem with the Australian selectors is that they have been changing the squad very often which shows a degree of panic. If you are trying to regain the number 1 spot, then this is not the way to do it. You need to give more confidence to the players. Spinner for one has been a big problem and Australia has struggled to find a suitable candidate to fill in for Shane Warne.

How long will the Australian selectors continue to experiment. These frequent changes are further damaging the team. They need to select the available best and then stick with them for some time. What they are doing currently is the ‘Pakistan Way’ of handling things. May be they have been in the comfort of the likes of McGrath, Warne, Hayden, Bevan, Gilchrist and others for just too long to have forgotten the process of team building. Soon Ponting and the Hussey brothers would be gone and it might take a while before Australia are able to regain the same position they have enjoyed over the past decade or so.

Players named for the series are:

Michael Clarke (captain), Shane Watson (vice-captain), Michael Beer, Trent Copeland, Brad Haddin, Ryan Harris, Phillip Hughes, Michael Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Usman Khawaja, Nathan Lyon, Shaun Marsh, James Pattinson, Ricky Ponting, Peter Siddle

  1. Jawad, I can get this info in cricinfo. I visit here only to know your perspective of the team. That would add weight to the post.
