With the Pakistan tour of Zimbabwe 30 days away, the PCB selection committee named the squad for all the three formats of the game. Pakistan is scheduled to play one Test, three ODIs and two T20 Internationals in Zimbabwe. The selection committee chairman, Mohsin Hassan Khan, stated in a press conference that they are looking to give new blood a chance. I wonder if this means they will suck out the blood from the previous new blood which was given a chance in the previous series. But then, this is Pakistan and the PCB has been just great in experimenting with new telent only to move on to newer telent and then coming back to the previous new telent. I wonder what they have judged in Hammad Azam, in the recent tour of West Indies and Ireland. He hardly got to bowl in West Indies, thanks to our super hero, Shahid Afridi, who probably feels insecure amoung other all rounders like Abdul Razzak and now Hammad Azam. Then we have Muhammad Salman, the new wicket keeper before whom we had a previous new wicketkeeper except for a short stint by Kamran Akmal in the Worldcup. Now Adnan Akmal makes a comeback, Really? Why was he dropped and why has he been picked again. Has he improved his game so much? Has Salman been dropped for ever? Or would he be back in the next series? These are some questions, only the genuis sitting in the PCB selection committee can answer. All we know is that Salman would probably make a comeback, not because he would improve his game but because the PCB selection committee would be further looking to improve the team. BTW, it looks good, that the selection committee is working so hard to find new telent.
What this does to the player’s confidence and does it also create rivalries among competing players like wicket keepers, or even openers for that matter, no one can make them understand. Among Muhammad Hafeez, Taufeeq Umar and Imran Farhat, who would be used and who would be rested. What consistency will it bring and what team building would be done, one can only wonder. Each of these three players have made several comebacks and would continue to do so.
Anyway, here is the squad named by the selection committee for the Zimbabwe tour.
Squad: Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), Mohammad Hafeez, Taufiq Umar, Imran Farhat, Azhar Ali, Younis Khan, Asad Shafiq, Umar Akmal, Rameez Raja Junior, Adnan Akmal, Saeed Ajmal, Yasir Shah, Sohail Tanveer, Sohail Khan, Junaid Khan, Aizaz Cheema
While the following players have been kept in standby.
