Looking at the recent display of poor form by the Indian team during the tour of England, one wonders if the ICC’s ranking system is flawed. India, despite being the World No. 1 ranked team, were no match for the Englishmen. Infact, the kind of display which the Indian put on was not in sync with their current ranking. The system needs to be finetuned to reflect the true place of teams in the ICC Cricket Ranking. I mean before India got to this sort of poor form, they should have slipped to a lower rank. This way, the ranking would have been more realistic and would have shown their real place in the Ranking list. They would have been under lesser pressure if they had been ranked more realistically.
India could have been playing against Bangladesh or Zimbabwe and still they would have been no better. They were by no means the best Test side in the world at the beginning of the tour. The ICC ranking should have reflected the same instead of ranking them at No.1. The ICC needs to change its ranking system to reflect more factual standings of teams. When ICC ranks a team as No. 1, it should mean that the team is actually the best in the world at that time.
