Pakistan’s Faysal Bank National T20 Tournament All Set To Start at Karachi

As International cricket dried out from Pakistan, local cricket has taken a big step forward as the cricket crazy people of Pakistan have shown extra ordinary involvement in the local events and have flooded the stadiums in all local events irrespective of whether it is played in Faisalabad, Lahore or Karachi. A blessing in disguise, the boycott of Pakistan by international teams has served Pakistan cricket in a certain manner. The domestic cricket has gone to a different level altogether, thus strengthening the local structure and grooming lot of new talent which can be seen in the selection of national team lately.

Since the national team players all free and available, as they are not welcome at the IPL and no Pakistani team is participating in the CLT20, all of them participate in the local event which raises the level and quality of the game and takes it to an altogether different level. Pakistan has also been experimenting with lots of new blood therefore they have lot more than 16 international players. Even though the tournament lacks the star power of the IPL and international names, it is in no way lower in quality and excitement. Pakistani cricketers are natural entertainers and big hitters suitable for T20 format of the game and the crowd just loves it. Never had Pakistan seen such successful domestic tournaments but even since the International cricket dried out, they have risen to the challenge and have done well.

The 9th edition of the tournament will feature 14 teams from 11 major regions of Pakistan and a foreign participation from an Afghan team. This is the first time an international team is participating in the tournament. The teams are divided into four groups and will fight for the top slot in their group to qualify for the semi-finals stage. The winners prize is Rs. 2.5 million while the runners-up gets Rs. 1 million.

The tournament starts from 25-Sept-2011 and ends on 02-Oct-2011. The semi-finals will be held on 01-Oct-2011 and the final on 02-Oct-2011. The opening match will be played between Quetta Bears and Abbottabad Falcons. Misbah-ul-Haq will lead the Faisalabad team, Shahid Afridi will lead Karachi Dolphins, Younis Khan will lead Karachi Zebras while the Lahore teams will be led by Muhammad Yousuf and Kamran Akmal. 4. Well sorry Bilal, this is not the official website for the Faysal Bank T20 tournament. I am just a blogger who likes to keep you updated on the tournament. For registering your team, I guess you would have to get in contact with the authorities in Faysal bank or the PCB. Best of Luck!
